Devil’s Pool is a natural rock pool located next to Livingstone Island on the edge of Victoria Falls. Aptly named, only a smooth, submerged lip of rock stands between you and a 100m drop over the world’s largest waterfall.
Created each year when the dry season lessens water levels to form the ultimate infinity pool, thrill-seekers descend on the falls to wade through the shallows and experience the world’s most daring swim.
If you have a taste for adrenaline, jump into the pool and allow yourself to be carried towards the falls at terrifying speed before the safety of the rock lip brings you to a halt. This is the closest that you can get to the falls, and an extraordinary way to experience the absolute power of one of the world’s Seven Natural Wonders.
The Devil’s Pool is usually open between mid-August and mid-January – depending on Zambezi water levels.
A swim in Devil’s Pool can be a scary thought for some – if you’re worried, the water levels in Devil’s Pool are typically lowest in October and November, so this is an ideal time to visit. There is also a safety rope along the edge of the Falls, and the guides stay in front, behind and alongside you when you make the swim.
